WHAT IS AN AIR PREPARATION UNIT?
Air is the main force behind pneumatic devices. By compressing air, it can do important things like gripping and moving things. A lot of people don’t realize how much the quality of the compressed air affects how well the system works in terms of speed, safety, accuracy, and economy.
The air preparation unit ensures that the air meets the required quality standards. People often underestimate and fail to fully appreciate the importance of air preparation in the realm of pneumatics.
FUNCTION OF AIR PREPARATION UNIT
It serves two primary functions:
1. Maintaining Compressed Air Quality: The efficient functioning of pneumatic systems relies on crucial compressed air quality. If compressed air contains contaminants like moisture, dust, soot, and oil particles, it can cause wear, damage, and corrosion in pneumatic components.
Preventing system inefficiency, loss of accuracy, increased energy consumption, and overall higher maintenance costs is achieved by ensuring compressed air quality.
2. Central Control of the Machine: The user sets the desired working pressure for compressed air centrally, turns the unit on and off, and takes measurements centrally using built-in pressure or flow monitors. These features enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of the machine or pneumatic system as a whole.
HOW DOES THE AIR PREPARATION UNIT WORK?
It works using the following components that are available in the Pakistani market:
FILTER: The air filter in a pneumatic system maintains system efficiency and prevents downtime. Pneumatic components’ performance can be compromised by contaminants such as dust, dirt, sand, oil, and water. This component removes these contaminants from the compressed air stream.
LUBRICATOR: Certain older devices or air tools rely on proper lubrication for optimal performance, while many modern pneumatic devices operate well with clean, dry air. Lubrication benefits pneumatic components like cylinders and valves, which have moving parts and seals, by preventing issues such as leaks, rust, premature wear, and seizing.
Typically, people install air lubricators downstream of other air preparation devices.
REGULATOR: It makes sure that the right amount of air is sent to the downstream, low-pressure side at the right pressure so that parts that are sensitive to changes in pressure don’t get damaged.
There are two types of air pressure regulators: standard regulators and precise regulators. Each type is made to work within a certain pressure range.
FILTER REGULATOR Unit (FR): A Filter/Regulator Unit’s objective is to combine functions to save space and money, making them useful for a variety of applications. The unit typically combines filtering for contaminant removal and regulation for air pressure management.
SS Hussain’s units simplify design work, save space, and lower total installed costs while ensuring quality and controlled compressed air delivery to pneumatic components.
FILTER REGULATOR LUBRICATOR UNIT: An FRL keeps air compressor systems working smoothly by combining a filter, a regulator, and a lubricator into one part. Combining the functions of these separate parts into a single device makes for a small and space-saving option.
This layout simplifies installation, shrinks the footprint, and simplifies maintenance.
