Pneumatic cylinders are mechanical devices that produce force by using energy from pressurized air. The main media involved is compressed air.
PARTS OF A PNEUMATIC CYLINDER
Following are components of a pneumatic cylinder:
Pneumatic Cylinder Bore: Inner parts are contained inside the pneumatic cylinder bore, which is closed off by front and back end caps. The front-end cap is close to the piston rod, and the back-end cap is directly across from it. Input of pressurized air is done through ports in one or both caps, and seals with padding stop leakage and contact during operation.
Piston: When compressed air comes in, the moving part moves back and forth, pushing the piston away from the back end and extending the piston rod. The force is equal to the air pressure times the surface of the piston. The cylinder’s diameter is the width of the piston or the inside of the cylinder.
PISTON ROD: The piston rod is connected and driven by the piston. It is attached to the machine element or objects to be pushed or pulled.
Piston Static Seal: The piston static seal ensures an airtight sealing between the piston and the rod.
As air comes in on one side of the cylinder, the pressure inside goes up. The piston moves in a certain way because of the rise in internal pressure. The force that is built up is sent to the item that needs to be moved by the piston rod.
